Camera type: F200EXRCheers! It really was an extremly gentle rotation of the lens which didn't feel as though it could possibly have done any damage to the camera. Result "zoom error" on screen, lens stuck halfway and the outer segment was at a strange angle. I will now try compressed air when the lens is extended.

Also Nikons are way more common to get lens errors than Canon, read consumer reports. Try it! ty... Wow.
I am so excited! Guess I'll have to get a new one. Miraculous results, it worked and continues to work! Both cameras are about 7 years old so I wouldn't have tried the steps with a new one.
