It was fine. The item was released in May of 2007. Canon lens error (E18 error) happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend or retract. I have had it for years without any problems.
Camera is like new again. After a number of taps and actual "bangs" of the camera on the table I heard a click and the miss-alignment was corrected. We knew that there wasn't much we could do to hurt the camera, since if our attempts failed, the camera was toast anyway. When I start it up, I hear 6 beeps and then get this error "Lens error, restart camera".
